Physician-owned medical, nursing, dental, mental health and pharmacy services for county jails and detention centers across the Southeast.
Correctional healthcare is the medical, dental, mental health and pharmacy care a jail or detention center must provide to the people in its custody. The obligation is constitutional: under Estelle v. Gamble, deliberate indifference to a serious medical need violates the Eighth Amendment, so a county cannot treat inmate healthcare as optional or postpone it to save money.
Most counties meet that obligation by contracting with a correctional healthcare provider rather than hiring and managing their own clinical staff. The provider staffs the medical unit, runs intake screening and sick call, manages medications and records, coordinates outside care and carries the clinical liability, while the sheriff keeps control of the facility.
Every GENESYS contract is built from the same nine services, sized to the facility's population and staffing model. Each one has its own page with the detail.
GENESYS partners with correctional facilities across the region. Each state page explains how local jails are run and overseen there, and links to the counties we cover.
Because GENESYS is physician-owned, clinical decisions are made by doctors, not shareholders. Each program has a named physician medical director accountable for clinical policy, quality assurance and NCCHC-aligned standards of care, with clinical protocols built around constitutional standards of care rather than minimum-cost staffing.
That matters whether or not your facility is pursuing accreditation: the constitutional standard is what courts, inspectors and auditors use to judge whether care was adequate.
A GENESYS contract is built from nine services: physician care, nursing care, dental care, mental health, pharmacy, medication management, medical records, ancillary services and claims processing. The staffing plan and hours are sized to your facility's population.
GENESYS is physician-owned. Its founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Peter Wrobel, is a Certified Correctional Health Professional and an NCCHC accreditation surveyor.
Open shifts are filled through overtime, compliance pool nurses, PRN staffing pools and contingency staffing, so a vacancy or a vacation request does not interrupt care at the site.
