Ready for Anderson County's Current Jail and Its 2026 Replacement

Anderson County is running its Detention Division out of a 1956 building while a replacement, 640 beds and infrastructure sized for up to 1,000 inmates, is under construction and tentatively completing in December 2026. GENESYS would take on physician leadership now, in the current facility, and carry that same program directly into the new building's fully equipped medical unit, nursing station, laboratory, pharmacy, telemedicine and mental health space, when it opens.

GENESYS is physician-owned, with a named medical director accountable for clinical policy and NCCHC-aligned standards of care, and clinical decisions made by doctors rather than a minimum-cost staffing plan. Vacancies are covered through overtime, compliance pool nurses and PRN staffing pools so open shifts are filled through the transition. Schedule an assessment and we will walk through a transition plan that carries through to Anderson County's new facility.

The Nine Services We Provide in Anderson County

Every GENESYS contract is built from the same nine services, sized to the facility's population and staffing model. Each one has its own page with the detail.

Why Facilities Choose GENESYS

  • Physician-owned. Founder and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Peter Wrobel brings more than 30 years of emergency medicine plus correctional experience, holds the Certified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP) credential through NCCHC and serves as an NCCHC accreditation surveyor.
  • More than 6,800 patients supported every month across 35+ partner correctional facilities.
  • More than 125 years of combined experience administering healthcare programs across management and staff.
  • Leadership available to partners 24/7/365.
  • Vacancies covered through overtime, compliance pool nurses, PRN staffing pools and contingency staffing, so a sick call or a resignation does not interrupt care.
  • Malpractice and workers' compensation coverage, and licensed staff with multi-state licensure encouraged.

Correctional Healthcare at the Anderson County Detention Center

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office, Detention Division, runs the current Detention Center at the Law Enforcement Center, 305 Camson Road in Anderson, built in 1956. The Division holds an average daily population of approximately 400 inmates, about 319 male and 65 female, and books roughly 4,500 new arrests a year, in a county of 203,718 people.

Anderson County broke ground on a replacement facility on August 16, 2024, planned at 140,000 square feet with 640 beds and infrastructure sized for up to 1,000 inmates, tentatively completing in December 2026. A healthcare partner here needs a program that runs in the current 1956 building today and moves directly into the new facility's purpose-built medical unit when it opens.

A 1956 Jail, A New One Under Construction

The current Detention Center dates to 1956, and the county is replacing it with a new facility that broke ground in August 2024 and is tentatively scheduled for completion in December 2026. Age is the reason the county gives for building new, not a reason to change how care runs in the meantime. A clinical program here has to operate fully within a nearly 70 year old building right up to the day a new one opens, then move its staffing and records into the replacement without a gap in coverage.

A Fully Equipped Medical Unit in the New Design

The replacement facility's design includes, per the project architect, a fully equipped medical unit with a nurses' station, a head nurse's office, a laboratory and a pharmacy, plus dedicated spaces for telemedicine and mental health services and accommodation for mobile dentistry. A clinical program moving into that space needs to already run every one of those functions, nursing, pharmacy, telehealth, mental health and dental coordination, to use space built specifically for them from the day the new jail opens.
