Georgia provides a broad network of correctional healthcare services that support individuals in custody across diverse urban and rural settings. These services operate within state prisons, county jails, and other detention facilities, reflecting Georgia’s commitment to basic medical oversight for incarcerated populations. The structure of care is shaped by statewide standards, local partnerships, and varying facility resources. While the specific scope of services can differ from one jurisdiction to another, each locality works within Georgia’s legal and regulatory framework. The following sections highlight how individual counties interpret and implement these overall correctional healthcare responsibilities.
Georgia provides correctional healthcare services through a coordinated network of state and local facilities that aim to support the medical and mental health needs of incarcerated individuals. Oversight typically involves collaboration among correctional agencies, contracted providers, and public health authorities.
